Heike Monogatari

At the end of the Heian era, the Heike family has climbed to extraordinary political and military power. A young biwa player loses her father because of the clan and possesses an eye that shows her pieces of the future. She tells Taira no Shigemori that his family is heading toward ruin. Shigemori, who himself can see the spirits of the dead, chooses to bring Biwa into his household rather than silence her. She grows among people whose fate she already fears, watching marriages, ambition, exile, and war unfold among those connected to the very clan that caused her loss. Shigemori struggles to contain his father's growing ambition while the age shifts beneath them. Biwa's music becomes the thread that will remember those history is preparing to lose.
