Flanders no Inu, Boku no Patrasche

Orphaned as a toddler, Nello grows up with his grandfather in a poor village near Antwerp. One day he rescues an abused dog named Patrasche, nurses him back to health, and gains a loyal companion who helps pull the family's milk cart through town.

Nello possesses a gift for drawing and dreams of seeing the great paintings inside Antwerp Cathedral, but poverty and suspicion repeatedly close doors before him. Through every hardship, the bond between the boy and Patrasche remains an unwavering source of dignity and love.
