Kumo no Ito

In Hell, the condemned robber Kandata suffers among countless sinners until the Buddha remembers the one compassionate act of his life: he once chose not to crush a spider. In response, a single strand of spider silk is lowered from Paradise into the darkness below.

Kandata seizes the fragile chance and begins climbing toward salvation. But when he looks down and sees other souls following him, fear that the thread cannot bear them all turns his hope into selfish desperation, testing whether a man can truly escape Hell without escaping the nature that brought him there.
