Death Parade

The dead sometimes awaken in the bar Quindecim with no memory of how they arrived. Bartender Decim places each pair into a seemingly ordinary game such as darts, bowling, or air hockey, then ties pain and consequences to memories from their lives until emotions they once hid are forced into the open. He uses what he sees to send each soul toward reincarnation or the void. Decim rarely questions this system until a woman arrives whose memories are missing and whose nature he cannot judge by the usual rules. Keeping her beside him forces Decim to observe humans rather than reduce them to one moment of fear, revealing that deciding the value of an entire life may be far harder than determining who lost a game.
