Twenty-three-year-old Mafuneko joins the production department at Tokyo Hajikko Television in 2014 expecting the glamorous excitement of working behind the scenes. She quickly learns that being a new assistant director mostly means doing whatever nobody else wants to do: collecting hundreds of acorns, preparing details viewers will never notice, and fixing bizarre visual problems seconds before they matter. The hours are long, the instructions often make no sense, and her coworkers can be stranger than the programs they produce. Surrounded by mistakes, last-minute disasters, and endless errands, Mafuneko tries to learn how television is actually made while surviving long enough to become a proper producer herself.
