Hakozume: Kouban Joshi no Gyakushuu

Mai Kawai joined the police for the stability of a civil-service job, not because she dreamed of chases or heroics. After only a few months of exhausting patrols, complaints, and routine work, she is ready to resign. Then Seiko Fuji, an exceptionally capable detective, is transferred to Mai's tiny neighborhood police box for reasons nobody explains clearly. Working beside Fuji gradually changes Mai's view of the job. A day may begin with a missing bicycle or traffic violation and end inside a domestic crisis or serious investigation. Through the absurd and exhausting details of ordinary policing, Mai learns that the value of the work often appears far from the dramatic moments people imagine.
