Uchi no Shishou wa Shippo ga Nai

At the beginning of the Taisho era, the old tricks of shapeshifting tanuki no longer fool people accustomed to technology and modern city life. Mameda, a young tanuki determined to follow her father's tradition of deceiving humans, refuses to give up and travels to Osaka to test herself. Her tricks fail one after another until she watches Bunko Daikokutei perform rakugo, a storytelling art capable of making an audience see entire worlds through words alone. Mameda is fascinated by the discovery that humans can still be fooled, only in a far more beautiful way, and decides to become Bunko's apprentice. Now she must learn to create illusion with voice, timing, and story instead of supernatural transformation.
