Moritaka Mashiro has artistic talent but no clear dream until classmate Akito Takagi discovers his drawings and proposes that they create manga together. Mashiro initially refuses because he watched his uncle spend a lifetime chasing success in the same industry and die without reaching the future he wanted.

His decision changes when he learns that Miho Azuki, the girl he loves, wants to become a voice actress. The two make a promise to marry if Mashiro publishes a manga that becomes an adaptation in which Azuki voices the heroine. Mashiro and Takagi begin a long path through rejected stories, deadlines, editors, and fierce magazine competition, discovering that talent alone is never enough to reach the page read by millions.
