Unnamed Memory

Prince Oscar carries a curse placed on him by the Witch of Silence, making it nearly impossible for him to produce an heir because the magic would kill any woman unable to withstand its power. After years of searching for a solution, he climbs the tower of Tinasha, the Witch of the Azure Moon, overcoming trials that stop nearly every challenger.

Oscar asks her to remove the curse, but when she explains that doing so is far from simple, he proposes what seems to him an easier solution: marry him, since she is powerful enough to survive it. Tinasha refuses marriage but agrees to live with him for a year and investigate the spell. During that time, old magic, rival witches, and conflicts between kingdoms reveal that Tinasha herself carries a history more dangerous than the curse Oscar wants broken.
