Life at BABEL leaves Akatsuki, Miu, Haruka, Chikage, and Kuzuha with plenty of opportunities for embarrassment even when no serious battle is taking place. New combat clothes, attempts to appear more mature, bathing mishaps, and other everyday situations quickly become contests of pride and self-consciousness.

Akatsuki's complete lack of restraint rarely helps. His bold personality repeatedly pushes the girls into flustered reactions, turning ordinary academy life into a string of shameless comedy where dignity is usually the first casualty.
