Hotaru no Haka

In 1945, the bombing of Kobe leaves Seita and his young sister Setsuko without their mother or their home. With their father away at war, Seita tries to shoulder responsibility for his sister alone, moving between relatives who have little patience for them and shelters that offer no real security.

The siblings eventually choose to live by themselves in an abandoned shelter, trying to turn it into a small home lit by fireflies. Food grows scarcer, illness takes hold, and the adults around them are too consumed by survival to spare much for two children. In a world stripped down by war, their bond becomes the last dependable source of warmth, and every small moment of happiness is a quiet act of resistance against circumstances they cannot control.
