Arslan continues his march toward Ecbatana, but an attack by the neighboring Kingdom of Turan forces him back to defend the vital stronghold of Peshawar. Elsewhere, Hermes searches for the legendary sword Rukhnabad, convinced that possessing it will strengthen his claim to the throne, while the captive King Andragoras finds an opportunity to make his own move inside the capital. Rival claims, foreign armies, and old ambitions now pull Pars in several directions at once.
