More than a century after the Moon shattered, chunks of its remains still fall toward Earth as deadly “Drops.” Humanity survives by relying on iDOLs, enormous humanoid machines capable of intercepting the debris before it strikes populated areas.

Haruka Amami thinks she is auditioning to become an idol singer, only to learn that the Mondenkind Agency has selected her as a candidate to pilot one of these mysterious machines. At a secret facility she meets other girls with the same duty and is paired with the iDOL Imber. The machine feels strangely alive to her, and Haruka's growing bond with it raises an unsettling question: if the iDOLs can respond to human emotion, what exactly are they?
