Professor Sycamore and Alexa investigate ancient ruins and discover the stone figure of a woman named Aila. The remains preserve a tragedy from Kalos's distant past, when Aila's beloved Jan challenged the Destruction Pokémon Yveltal and failed to prevent it from draining the land's life and turning Aila to stone.

Jan continued searching for the Life Pokémon Xerneas, hoping to restore what had been lost. Xerneas could revive the devastated land but not the woman he loved. When the balance between life and destruction collapsed, Zygarde appeared to restore order. The old records reveal a cycle linking all three legendary Pokémon and a love that endured beside Aila long after hope of saving her was gone.
