Ao no Miburo

Kyoto in 1863 is a city on the verge of upheaval, with political conflict, armed ronin, and growing bloodshed marking the final years of the shogunate. Nio Chirinu is an orphan working at his adoptive grandmother's restaurant who, despite the cruelty around him, still clings to a simple belief that people deserve justice.

His path changes when he meets Toshizou Hijikata and Souji Okita of the despised ronin group Miburo and eventually joins them in protecting Kyoto. Surrounded by men far stronger than he is, Nio trains to earn his place and develop a sense of justice that is truly his own. Yet in a time when loyalties shift from one day to the next, holding on to that conscience may prove harder than learning to wield a sword.
