Aikatsu Planet is a virtual world where girls perform through idol avatars and compete for popularity. Mao Otoha lives an ordinary school life until Meisa Hinata, the girl behind the famous top idol Hana, suddenly disappears and Mao is secretly chosen to replace her. From then on, she lives with two identities: Mao at school and Hana before a huge audience that does not know the person behind the avatar has changed. She must learn to perform, face rivals, and protect the secret at the same time. As Hana begins reflecting more of Mao's own personality, it becomes harder to tell where the role she inherited ends and the idol she genuinely wants to become begins.
