Dr. Ichiro Irabu's psychiatric office attracts people with wildly different troubles: a trapeze artist who has lost confidence in his jumps, a man terrified of sharp objects, and others whose anxieties have taken over their daily lives. Their doctor, however, may be stranger than any diagnosis. Irabu appears by turns as a child, a young man, and an enormous green bear, while his impassive nurse Mayumi watches the chaos unfold.

Irabu's methods rarely resemble conventional therapy. His questions and behavior can seem ridiculous or invasive, yet they force each patient toward the problem they would rather avoid. As their days cross in unexpected ways around Tokyo, the lives of these seemingly unrelated strangers begin to reveal an invisible connection.
