Glass no Kamen (2005)

Thirteen-year-old Maya Kitajima lives a difficult life helping her mother at a modest restaurant, with little sign that anything different awaits her. Then legendary retired actress Chigusa Tsukikage recognizes an extraordinary instinct for acting in Maya and decides to train her, opening a path to the stage that the girl never knew existed.

On the other side stands Ayumi Himekawa, the daughter of famous parents who has every advantage yet refuses to let her success be credited to her family name. Both girls ultimately aim for the role of the Crimson Goddess, a part whose successor Tsukikage alone can choose. From one stage to the next, their rivalry forces Maya and Ayumi beyond the limits of talent, through failure, jealousy, sacrifice, and triumph, because only one of them can inherit the role that may define her entire life.
