While traveling with Gieve, Prince Arslan hears stories that expose less heroic sides of the companions he admires. Tales of old romances and embarrassing encounters involving Narsus, Daryun, and Elam turn a quiet stretch of the journey into an unexpectedly revealing conversation.

Later, after the campaign in Sindhura, Arslan's party enjoys a rare pause together before moving on. Away from battlefields and political schemes, a lively gathering gives the warriors a chance to eat, laugh, quarrel, and strengthen the friendships that hold the group together.
