In 193, Cao Cao's invasion of Xuzhou drives the struggle for power into a bloodier phase after Guo Jia proposes a ruthless strategy meant to terrify cities into submission. Liaoyuan Huo, acting under the name Zhao Yun, joins the desperate defense of Xuzhou's people while secretly trying to draw Liu Bei into the fight against Cao Cao.

At the same time, Lu Bu strikes Cao Cao's rear under Chen Gong's guidance, while Zhuge Liang and Sima Yi enter a battlefield where military strength and schemes are equally deadly.
