For 30 years, destructive “spacequakes” have struck the world whenever mysterious beings known as Spirits appear. During one such disaster in Tengu City, high school student Shidou Itsuka meets a Spirit girl in the middle of a battle between two groups that have completely different ideas about what should happen to her.

The Anti-Spirit Team wants the Spirits eliminated. Ratatoskr, secretly commanded by Shidou’s younger sister Kotori, believes they can be saved instead. Shidou possesses the ability to seal a Spirit’s power, but there is an unusual condition: she first has to open her heart to him. Saving the city therefore means meeting the Spirits, understanding their loneliness and fears, and somehow making them fall in love with him. A bad date can now end in considerably more than embarrassment.
