Yuki no Joou (TV)

Gerda and Kai are inseparable childhood friends until a shard from the Snow Queen's cursed mirror enters Kai's eye and freezes his heart. He becomes cold and distant, then disappears with the Snow Queen into the far north while everyone at home assumes he is gone forever.

Gerda refuses to accept that conclusion. Leaving the safety of her village, she crosses unfamiliar lands in search of Kai and meets people whose kindness, selfishness, and sorrow repeatedly test her resolve. Her journey becomes a struggle to reach the frozen castle and restore the friend she remembers beneath the ice in his heart.
