After the Fourth Impact, Shinji, Asuka, and Rei reach Village 3, one of the few places where survivors have rebuilt an ordinary human life. Away from Evangelions and NERV, Shinji sees people from his past who have grown older, formed families, and found work, while he remains trapped by guilt and loss.

NERV has not abandoned the Human Instrumentality Project, and Gendo Ikari is preparing another Impact that could end the world in its current form. As WILLE moves toward a final confrontation, Shinji chooses to return to the conflict he once tried to escape. This time he is not piloting because someone ordered him to. He wants to face his father, understand the choices that shaped them both, and finally break the cycle that has held him in place.
