Guts can no longer wander with only his own survival to consider. Casca remains unable to remember or trust the man she once knew, and the Brand of Sacrifice ensures that demons continue hunting them wherever night finds them. Puck speaks of Elfhelm, a distant land that may offer Casca safety and a chance to heal.

The journey toward that fragile hope draws new companions around Guts, including Farnese, Serpico, Isidro, and the young witch Schierke. As supernatural horrors spread through a world already torn by war and religious fear, the Black Swordsman must learn to fight as part of a group while carrying rage that still points toward Griffith.
