Gon is on the verge of death when gills suddenly grow on his body and allow him to breathe again. Kang Ha and his grandfather find and rescue him, and the strange boy gradually becomes part of a household that looks nothing like a conventional family.

The gills that saved Gon's life also separate him from everyone around him, making them a blessing and a curse at once. Through his life with Kang Ha and his grandfather, the three discover how the very thing that isolates a person can also become what keeps them alive, and how a family can form among people who were never supposed to meet.
