Evangelion Movie 1: Jo

Years after being abandoned by his father, Shinji Ikari is summoned to Tokyo-3 at the exact moment an Angel attacks the city. He discovers that his father commands NERV and that the reason for calling him back is brutally simple: Shinji is expected to pilot Eva-01, one of the only weapons capable of fighting the creatures threatening humanity.

Shinji has neither experience nor any desire to fight, but seeing the injured Rei Ayanami pushes him into the cockpit. After the battle, he begins living with Misato and trying to adjust to school, NERV, and his new role. Every Angel attack demands courage he does not feel he possesses, while his father's connection to the Evas and the Angels remains full of secrets Shinji cannot understand.
