Mononoke Hime

Prince Ashitaka protects his village from a raging boar possessed by a demonic force, killing it but receiving a curse that will eventually consume his body. He leaves home to find the source of the creature's hatred and a way to save himself, a journey that leads him to a thriving iron settlement ruled by Lady Eboshi.

The town survives by clearing the forest and mining iron, placing it at war with the animal gods defending their land. Fighting for the forest is San, a human girl raised by wolves who despises humanity. Ashitaka finds compassion and cruelty on both sides and tries to halt a conflict in which each believes survival requires the other's destruction, even as his curse feeds on every new burst of hatred.
