After her mother dies, Miya, the illegitimate child of a prominent family, is sent to live in her father's household. She is convinced she knows what awaits her: a cruel stepmother, older stepsisters who will treat her like a servant, and a life of humiliation she will be powerless to escape.

Reality refuses to follow the story Miya has prepared in her head. Her stepmother is kind, her new sisters care for her instead of bullying her, and every situation she expects to end in punishment turns into affection she has no idea how to receive.
