Winter 1974

Five-year-old Heidi is taken to live with her reclusive grandfather high in the Swiss Alps. Her open heart quickly softens the old man, and she falls in love with the mountains, the goats, and her new friend Peter. For the first time since losing her parents, Heidi finds a home that feels completely her own.That happiness is interrupted when she is taken to Frankfurt as a companion for Clara, a wealthy girl who cannot walk. Heidi and Clara become close friends, but the city leaves Heidi desperately homesick. Her longing for the Alps eventually changes not only her own life, but Clara's as well, drawing both girls toward a future shaped by friendship and the healing freedom of the mountains.
