Ikkyuu is a young novice monk at Ankokuji Temple, but his mischievous nature makes him very different from the obedient student his teachers might prefer. What he lacks in solemnity, however, he more than makes up for with a remarkably quick mind.Whenever adults present him with an impossible demand, a trick question, or an unfair problem, Ikkyuu sits down, thinks carefully, and finds an answer nobody expected. His clever solutions often create trouble first, yet they just as often help people and expose the foolishness of those who underestimated him.

When the craft returns to the present, his young assistants find no doctor in the cockpit, only a parrot that may be their sole clue to what happened.Refusing to abandon him, the group climbs into the machine and begins an unpredictable search across time. With no precise destination and danger waiting in every era, finding Dr. Kieta means chasing traces through history before the trail disappears for good.
