Gosick

In the European kingdom of Sauville, Japanese exchange student Kazuya Kujou is treated like an omen because of his dark hair and foreign appearance. His isolation changes when he wanders to the top of Saint Marguerite Academy's enormous library and meets Victorique de Blois, a tiny, sharp-tongued girl who spends her days among books and can untangle mysteries with startling ease.

Kujou becomes the person who brings the outside world to Victorique, and she becomes the mind that makes sense of the strange cases he encounters. Ghost ships, impossible murders, old legends, and political secrets repeatedly draw them beyond the academy. Yet the greatest mystery is Victorique herself: her family keeps her hidden for a reason, and the turbulent history of Sauville is beginning to close around both of them.
