Fushigi Yuugi

Miaka Yuuki and her best friend Yui Hongo open an old book in the National Library and are pulled into a world resembling ancient China. Miaka soon learns that she has been chosen as the Priestess of Suzaku, whose duty is to gather seven Celestial Warriors and summon the guardian god of the kingdom of Konan.

What begins as a way to return home becomes tangled with war, romance, and a painful break between the two girls. Yui is drawn to the rival kingdom of Kutou and becomes the Priestess of Seiryuu, placing the friends on opposing sides of a conflict neither understood when they entered the book. Miaka must find her warriors and protect Konan while holding onto the hope that the story does not have to turn her closest friend into an enemy forever.
