Kitarou Tanjou: Gegege no Nazo

In 1956, employee Mizuki arrives in the isolated village of Nagura to investigate the wealthy Ryuga family after its patriarch dies and a vicious inheritance struggle begins. A mysterious man is also there searching for his missing wife: Kitaro's father, long before he becomes Medama-Oyaji. Behind the family's influence over politics and business lies something older and far darker, and a series of gruesome incidents begins exposing rituals and crimes hidden beneath the village's orderly surface. Mizuki forms an uneasy alliance with a being whose nature he barely understands but whose need for answers matches his own. Every discovery brings them closer to the fate of Kitaro's parents and the secret that made his birth inseparable from a tragedy powerful people tried to erase.
