Highschool of the Dead

The dead suddenly begin rising and attacking the living, and within hours Takashi Komuro's high school collapses alongside the world outside it. When his best friend is bitten, Takashi is forced to kill him before the transformation is complete, then escapes the infected school with Rei Miyamoto.

They join other survivors including Saeko Busujima, Kouta Hirano, Saya Takagi, and school nurse Shizuka, setting out across a city where police, communication, and public order have already begun to fail as they search for their families. The dead are an obvious danger, but panic, hunger, and people who abandon society's rules may be worse. Survival will require more than weapons; they must keep the collapse around them from destroying what remains of them as well.
