Daisuke Higashida is a serious high school student whose peaceful routine collapses when his father's company goes bankrupt. Unable to afford his daily expenses or even the train fare to school, he takes a job at a nearby family restaurant rather than cycle 15 kilometers each way.

The restaurant's staff are anything but normal. From the relentlessly cheerful Hana Miyakoshi to coworkers with bizarre habits and equally bizarre relationships, Daisuke finds that earning a paycheck may be easier than surviving each shift with his common sense intact.
