Maison Ikkoku

Yuusaku Godai lives in the aging Maison Ikkoku boarding house, trying to study for university entrance exams while surrounded by neighbors who respect neither quiet nor privacy. Just as he finally decides to move out, the new manager arrives: Kyoko Otonashi, a young widow Godai falls for almost immediately.

Godai stays and begins trying to grow closer to Kyoko, but their lives are filled with interference, misunderstandings, and the emotional distance between an uncertain student and a woman still carrying love for her late husband. Rivals appear, and Godai slowly grows from an indecisive young man into someone capable of taking responsibility for his feelings and future. What begins as a simple crush needs years to become a love both can choose without running from the past.
