Watashi no Ashinaga Ojisan

Judy Abbott grows up in an orphanage with little reason to expect her future to change, until an anonymous benefactor offers to pay for her education at Lincoln Memorial School. Judy sees only his long shadow as he leaves and gives him the only name she can: Daddy Long Legs. The scholarship requires her to write him a letter every month about her life, though he never answers. At school, Judy discovers a world she never knew, forms friendships with girls from very different backgrounds, and begins developing her talent for writing. Over the years, the letters become a record of her joys, insecurities, and growth, while the mystery of the man who gave her this opportunity quietly remains in the background, much closer to her life than she realizes.
