Gabimaru, Sagiri, and their companions reach the stronghold of the Tensen, tying the search for the Elixir of Life directly to a confrontation with the beings who rule the island. Criminals and executioners can no longer afford their old hostility; learning to use Tao and cooperate with one another may be the only way to survive opponents who seem almost impossible to kill.

Meanwhile, the shogunate sends another force into the Immortal Realm under Shugen Yamada Asaemon, joined by members of the Ishigakure clan connected to Gabimaru’s past. Their arrival adds new allies and enemies to an island where options are disappearing fast.
