Urano Motosu dies just after achieving her dream of working among books and awakens in another world as Myne, a frail young girl from a poor family. Her new home has almost no books, and the few that exist are luxuries far beyond her reach. If she cannot buy them, Myne decides, she will make them herself.

That stubborn goal leads her from homemade paper and ink into commerce, noble society, and the temple, while a dangerous condition called the Devouring reveals the enormous mana hidden inside her weak body. Through illness, class barriers, contracts, and separation from the people she loves, Myne keeps building a path toward books, eventually finding that protecting her family may demand choices far greater than becoming a librarian.
