One year after Yamato's return saved Earth, a gigantic white comet appears from deep space, erasing everything in its path. The object is actually the advance of the White Comet Empire, a conquering power moving relentlessly toward Earth.

When the Yamato crew receives a mysterious warning from the distant world of Telezart, they choose to launch even without official approval. Their journey places them between a vastly stronger enemy, Earth's own military decisions, and old foes who have not forgotten their defeat. As the comet closes in, the crew must discover what can stop an empire that treats entire planets as obstacles to be swept away.
