After escaping the Republic of San Magnolia, Shin and the surviving members of Spearhead are taken in by the Federal Republic of Giad. Given a chance to live as ordinary citizens, they find that the battlefield still defines who they are and eventually return to combat alongside the young Frederica Rosenfort.

As the Legion prepares an assault centered on the enormous railgun Morpho, Shin's unit is pushed into an increasingly desperate campaign. Their march toward the enemy weapon forces them to confront the reason they continue fighting when every step forward seems to bring them closer to death.
