Makoto Edamura proudly calls himself Japan's greatest swindler, until he tries to rob a French tourist and realizes too late that he is the one who has been conned. The tourist is Laurent Thierry, an international confidence man who drags Makoto to Los Angeles and places a target in front of him far beyond anything he has handled before: a powerful figure in the criminal underworld who will not be easy to deceive. From there Makoto is pulled across cities, countries, and elaborate scams involving partners with their own histories and motives. It becomes increasingly difficult to tell where the plan ends and where Laurent's manipulation of Makoto begins. Every con is more ambitious than the last, yet the greatest danger may be trusting the wrong person at the wrong moment.
