Little Red Bean still has one wonderfully simple dream: to be eaten someday. Until that happens, he keeps working his way through bowls, buns, drinks, and desserts, meeting other ingredients whose personalities are every bit as peculiar as his own.

Life inside food turns out to be full of tiny adventures. A snowman rises on red-bean ice, a television somehow finds its way into a bean-paste bun, and a cup of pearl milk tea can feel like an expedition beneath the sea. Alongside Li Jianxun, Anthony, Zhao Jianguo, and the rest of his ingredient friends, Red Bean discovers that waiting to be eaten leaves plenty of time for friendship, daydreaming, and very strange jobs.
