After another burst of Dark Power scatters Black Notes across Mari Land and the human world, the kingdom is thrown into political confusion. My Melody is chosen as a candidate for princess, but earning the crown requires her to cleanse the darkness she encounters and turn the resulting Huff-Huffs into shining Twinkle Gems.

Kuromi has no intention of watching her rival take the throne. Offered a path to become the Dark Princess, she begins collecting Anger Gems for a crown of her own. Their competition carries both girls back to the human world, unaware that the darkness behind the notes is preparing to rise again and use their rivalry for something far more dangerous than a royal contest.
