Months after the Ginza Incident, the JSDF remains stationed in the Special Region while fragile peace negotiations with the Empire grow increasingly complicated. Lieutenant Youji Itami and his companions are caught between imperial politics, Princess Piña Co Lada's attempts to prevent further war, and foreign powers eager to exploit everything beyond the Gate.

At the same time, the threat of the Fire Dragon and a hardening faction within the Empire make diplomacy more dangerous by the day.
