Mike and Lucy have become a genuine team, using Hero Books to protect the city as more of the mysterious comics—and more people capable of summoning their heroes—begin to surface. At the same time, citizens and police increasingly treat Hero Book users as criminals, making heroism harder than simply saving the day.

The search leads Mike to Super Scott, a hero modeled after the missing artist Scott himself, and to a far more troubling discovery: Scott is sealed inside seven books known as the Digi 7. A new race begins against the Council of Comics and other factions seeking those books, turning Scott's rescue into the mission that binds the team together.
