Shirou Yamaoka hardly looks like the reporter to trust with his newspaper’s centenary project. Beneath his lazy manner, however, lie an extraordinary palate and deep culinary knowledge. Together with Yuuko Kurita, he is assigned to assemble the Ultimate Menu.

A rival newspaper answers with a Supreme Menu supervised by Yuzan Kaibara, Shirou’s formidable, estranged father. Their search through kitchens, farms, and dining rooms becomes a contest of craft and conviction, with old family wounds never far from the table.
