Keima Katsuragi remains bound by contract to Elsie and must continue freeing runaway spirits hidden inside the hearts of girls. He relies on strategies learned from dating games, but the karate practitioner Kusunoki, the conflicted teacher Jun, and other targets refuse to behave like predictable fictional heroines.

Elsie's friend Haqua arrives from Hell and reveals that even elite demons can fail under pressure. As stronger spirits and more complicated emotions emerge, Keima's contempt for the real world is challenged by people whose feelings cannot be reset or replayed.
