Yuugi Mutou is a shy boy who loves games but struggles with bullying and longs for true friends who will stand beside him. For years he works to solve the Millennium Puzzle, an ancient Egyptian artifact said to grant a wish to whoever completes it. When he finally succeeds, his wish is answered in a way he never expected: a powerful and mysterious second personality awakens within him.

Whenever Yuugi faces cruelty or injustice, this other self can take control and draw the offender into a Shadow Game, where losing carries consequences far beyond a score. As Yuugi tries to understand the spirit he has awakened, the games he loves become a way to expose people's hidden intentions and punish those who prey on others.
