Itou Junji: Maniac

Balloons shaped like human heads drift above a city, each trailing a noose that searches for the person whose face it copies. The strange Hikizuri siblings attempt to summon a dead spirit and invite something they do not understand, while Souichi fills the lives around him with nails, curses, and jokes that can become nightmares without warning.

Elsewhere, Tomie refuses to stay dead the way a human being should, using beauty and other people’s obsession to create cycles of jealousy and murder before returning again. Dead-end streets, hair growing where it should not, ice cream hiding something revolting, and statues that refuse to remain still all follow the same cruel pattern: something familiar is pushed one step too far, then another, until it becomes difficult to remember why it ever looked ordinary.
